Hi, I'm Amy Elliott Bragg, a writer, editor and professional curious person based in the Detroit area.
I work in journalism: Currently I am special projects editor at Crain's Detroit Business, where I work with an outstanding newsroom to produce enterprise journalism, special reports and our signature recognition programs like Twenty in their 20s and Forty Under 40. In 2017 I was proud to take the lead on our two-issue package of stories about the lingering business impacts of the '67 Detroit uprising.
Previously I was content director at Detroit-based Issue Media Group. In 2016, I was honored to be selected to participate in the ONA-Poynter Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media.
I write about history: I'm curious about places and how they came to look and work the way they do. Some examples of the kinds of stories I like to explore: how Detroit became a city of trees, the origins of cremation in the United States, the mother of Detroit's historic preservation movement and why Michigan is on Eastern Time.
Sometimes I give tours: Chiefly focused on Detroit in the 19th century, historic preservation, and Elmwood Cemetery.
I have a terrific dog. This is Mona:
That's the gist of it. Be in touch if you want to learn more.
